Julia Mjörnstedt, generalsekreterare på Ung Cancer, berättar att deras video "det är okej att känna" egentligen var tänkt som utbildningsmaterial och att spridningen den fick var helt oväntad. Efter ett år av medieuppmärksamhet siktar Ung Cancer på att till hösten börja arbeta mer aktivt för att nå ut i medierna.
Under det senaste året har frågan kring unga vuxna med cancer lyfts upp bra i medierna, tycker Julia Mjörnstedt. Hon menar att frågan varit i total medieskugga innan deras organisation började belysa situationen.
– Det har varit mycket publicitet kring oss som organisation. Nyheten har handlat om att gruppen som unga vuxna med cancer utgör faktiskt är en grupp, det är klart att det finns många bitar man vill att de ska lyfta, men innan har inte gruppen funnits alls i medierna.
En tidning som hon tycker har överraskat med sin rapportering är Aftonbladet.
– Många säger att de är en sådan tidning som gärna gröper i grejer, men jag tycker att de har lyft fram våra frågor förvånansvärt bra.
Kampanjen som inte var en kampanj
Idén till deras video ”det är okej att känna” kom från en medlem som hade skrivit ett brev till sitt 16-åriga jag, berättar Julia Mjörnstedt. Ung Cancer bad flera medlemmar att göra detsamma och sedan spelade de in videon på ett kontor med en handhållen kamera. Tanken var då att den skulle fungera som utbildningsmaterial.
– Den var inte tänkt som marknadsföring och vi hade verkligen inte förväntat oss den uppmärksamhet den fick. Jag tror att den talade till många, den var väldigt ärlig och naken.
Fokus på sociala medier
Ung Cancers fokus ligger på kommunikation via sociala medier, säger Julia Mjörnstedt.
– Det viktiga för oss har varit att skapa egna kanaler själva och på så sätt skapa ett allmänintresse. Sprider man sin egen nyhet blir till slut de traditionella medierna tvungna att hänga på, men det är bara ett plus för oss.
Julia Mjörnstedt säger att de inte hört av sig direkt till medierna för att lyfta sina frågor än, men med ledarskapsstipendium från kungen och pris för årets eldsjälar på ”Svenska hjältar”-galan har mediebiten flutit på bra ändå, berättar hon.
– Det kan låta lite konstigt, men vi har längtat efter en paus från media. Det har varit så mycket uppmärksamhet, vilket självklart är bra för organisationen, men det har varit tufft för oss. Efter sommaren planerar vi att börja ge oss ut i medierna och lyfta de frågor vi vill ta upp mer.
