Lars Nord, professor i medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap vid Mittuniversitetet menar att journalistiska tolkningar numer får mer utrymme i politiska debatter än politikerna själva. Något som enligt honom inte måste vara negativt, men balansen håller inte en rimlig nivå i nuläget.
Second Opinion har talat med Lars Nord som har skrivit ett kapitel i boken "Scandalous! The Mediated Construction of Political Scandals in Four Nordic Countries", utgiven av Nordicom. När han studerade svenska mediers bevakning under slutskedet av senaste valrörelsen upptäckte han en klar nergång för det medieutrymme politiker fick, samtidigt som han såg en uppgång för journalisternas eget tolkningsutrymme.
– Kommentarerna bygger mycket på spekulationer och rykten. Kommentatorerna får också alltid sista ordet vilket jag tror spelar roll för hur människor tolkar och värderar politiska händelser.
Användargenererat innehåll
Lars Nord menar att det är naturligt att journalistik består av både nyheter och opinion, men att balansen inte håller en rimlig nivå i nuläget.
– Medielandskapet har förändrats och tolkningarna har fått ett oproportionerligt stort utrymme. Det tvingas även fram överdrivet provocerande tolkningar för att slå sig igenom mediebruset för att man ska höras.
Samtidigt beskriver han en utveckling som går mot alltmer användargenererat innehåll.
− Kommentatorernas analys blir som ett nav för den politiska diskussionen. Läsarna skickar in frågor som kommentatorerna svarar på och fortsätter diskutera om.
”De har andra kanaler”
Ett argument som Lars Nord tror används för att berättiga det minskade medieutrymmet för politikerna är att politikerna har andra kanaler att tala i. Många politiker bloggar och twittrar till exempel. Problemet är dock att det bara är några få som har sådan lyskraft att det de skriver blir intressant att läsa, säger han.
– Men man vill ju inte läsa långa och komplicerade inlägg av politiker heller.
Lars Nord tror att den framtida utvecklingen kommer att fortsätta i samma spår, med att journalistiska tolkningar och värderingar genomsyrar debatten. Vad han däremot skulle vilja se är en bättre balans mellan politiska uttalanden och journalistiska tolkningar där även läsaren får utrymme att kommentera och diskutera.
