JMK-doktoranden Magnus Danielson påbörjade nyligen en avhandling om Uppdrag Granskning ur ett maktperspektiv och ska bland annat titta närmare på vilka samhällsområden som granskas i programmet. Uppdrag Gransknings projektledare, Nils Hanson, anser själv att de behöver titta mer på näringsliv och kulturfrågor framöver.
Second Opinion har tidigare berättat att Uppdrag Gransknings projektledare, Nils Hanson, efterfrågat forskning kring deras arbete. Nu har efterlysningen gett resultat. Magnus Danielson vid JMK står nämligen i startgroparna för Sveriges första avhandling om programmet.
– Jag har alltid varit intresserad av den typen av samhällsomvälvande journalistik som sätter fingret på ömma punkter på samhällskroppen. Det här är ett program som inte går med dreven, utan dyker på ämnen som oftast inte har varit i ropet tidigare.
Avhandlingen kommer att bestå av tre delar och beräknas var klar i slutet av år 2014. I den första delen undersöks vad det är för typ av makt och vilka områden i samhället som är föremål för Uppdrag Gransknings granskningar sedan programmet startades. Den andra delen blir en analys av de moraliska utgångspunkter redaktionen har i sitt berättade och hur dessa utvecklas i programmen. Den tredje delen består av intervjuer med redaktörer och journalister på redaktionen och ska handla om deras uppfattning om den makt de granskar och hur de ser på sin egen roll som makthavare.
Nils Hanson på Uppdrag Granskning är framför allt intresserad av vad Magnus Danielson kommer fram till gällande Uppdrag Gransknings påverkan på och inflytande över den demokratiska utvecklingen.
– Det känns förmätet att vi skulle ha sådan inverkan på samhället, men det är så han formulerar det. Sedan kan det säkert bli så att han hittar saker som vi kan göra bättre och det känns också spännande.
Databas om ämnesvalen
Uppdrag Granskning har upprättat en databas för att hålla bättre koll på vilka områden de granskar i sina program, för att komma till rätta med obalanser i ämnesvalen, berättar Nils Hanson.
– Vi blir allt mer medvetna om risken att man granskar vissa områden och att andra områden förblir ogranskade. Det vi kan se är att vi har gjort många granskningar på den offentliga sektorn, men inte så mycket på näringslivet eller inom kultur- och idrottsområdet.
Obalansen har redan nu lett till konkreta åtgärder inom redaktionen, berättar han.
– Vi har tagit in kompetens utifrån, bland annat ekonomijournalister och vi har även inlett ett samarbete med SVT-sporten. Vad gäller kulturområdet har vi tidigare haft en specialsatsning som vi kallade för UG Kultur. Vi har också infört en serie porträtt där vi granskar just makthavare och kulturpersonligheter som kanske inte alltid passar in i den traditionella granskningsmallen.
Jan Guillou kritiserade Uppdrag Granskning i Journalisten år 2003 för att man ofta ställde socialsekreterare, småpolitiker och mellanchefer på olika myndigheter till svars, men aldrig de riktiga höjdarna. Hur ser du på objekten för era granskningar idag?
– Vi granskar människor som har makt över andra människor och det kan gälla både folk på högsta politiska nivå, men också på lägre nivå. Vår uppgift är att identifiera missförhållanden och då varierar våra intervjuobjekt naturligtvis beroende på vem som är ansvarig.
Förvånad över produktionstiden
Magnus Danielson har nyligen besökt Uppdrag Gransknings redaktion under en knapp vecka för att få en uppfattning om hur programmen blir till.
– Jag intervjuade medarbetarna, tittade på hur de redigerade och såg hur de jobbade med faktagranskning. Det som förvånade mig var hur lång tid det tar att göra ett reportage. I snitt gör varje reportageteam två reportage om året.
För åtta år sedan avslöjade SVT:s dåvarande program Mediemagasinet stora sakfel i flera av Uppdrag Gransknings reportage, vilket ledde till att Nils Hanson införde nya rutiner för kvalitetssäkring. Att kritiken satt sina spår märktes tydligt för Magnus Danielson när han besökte redaktionen.
– Det var nästan som att de talade om det som två olika eror, före och efter Mediemagasinet. De var väldigt tillmötesgående och det kändes som att deras önskan om att blir granskade av forskare var uppriktig.
